The Geek & Gorgeous 101 Stress Less is a lightweight and silky gel serum designed to soothe, repair, and hydrate sensitive, damaged, irritated, or dehydrated skin with the combination of two excellent molecules: Beta-Glucan from Oats and Madecassoside from Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kola/Cica).

Beta-Glucan is the most bioactive and valuable part of Oats with intensive skin repairing, smoothing, and wound healing properties. It is a large polysaccharide (sugar) molecule, somewhat similar in structure to Hyaluronic Acid, thus exhibiting similar (or by some even greater) skin hydrating properties. While larger beta-glucan fractions remain on the skin's surface to hydrate and smooth it, smaller fractions penetrate deep (even into the dermis, the middle layer of the skin) showing promising anti-aging benefits.
Madecassoside is one of the main active components of Centella Asiatica (also known as Gotu Kola or Cica), a medicinal plant that has well-documented soothing, healing, and antioxidant properties.
We use 0.2% Beta-Glucan and 0.3% Madecassoside in this formula. While these percentages may not sound high, when it comes to these two actives, they are. Studies use Madecassoside from 0.05% (where it has been shown to inhibit UV-induced melanin production) or at 0.1% in combination with 5% Vitamin C for anti-aging benefits. 0.2% Madecassoside has notable barrier support, skin hydrating properties, as well as reducing redness and itching in atopic or psoriasis-prone skin.
In-vivo studies (conducted on real people) by the manufacturer of Beta-Glucan show that the molecule improves skin barrier recovery when used at 0.05%, while its hydrating capacity is as good as or even greater than that of hyaluronic acid. When used at 0.1%, Beta-Glucan makes the skin firmer, smoother, and more elastic.

It has also been shown to inhibit UV-induced melanin production, support the skin barrier, and reduce redness and itching in problematic skin.
• Saccharide Isomerate: A skin-identical carbohydrate molecule that binds to the skin like a magnet and keeps the skin hydrated for longer than most other humectants. It is a skin-identical substance that binds to keratinocytes and provides long-lasting hydration.
Stress Less is particularly recommended if your skin is prone to dehydration, sensitivity, redness, and irritation, or if you use potent actives (e.g., anti-acne such as benzoyl peroxide or anti-aging such as tretinoin) that are known to dry out the skin or compromise the skin barrier.
